Small villages forgotten in time and memory integrated in a unique landscape.
The farmhouses are small villages, many of them uninhabited nowadays. They total 46 although 4 of them historically do not belong to the region but to the Mancomunidad de Las Hurdes. Their urban organization is very primary, combining the existence of houses with slate huts, witnesses of a highly precarious way of life.
Etymologically, the word "alquería" derives from the Arabic word for small rural communities inhabited by a few families dedicated to the exploitation of the surrounding land. To visit one of them is to go back in time several centuries and get the reward of the leisurely time, peace and the feeling of belonging to nature. We invite you to visit those of Robledo, Avellanar and Cambroncino and to see the film "Buñuel and the Labyrinth of the Turtles".
