Ovejuela is a small village (almost hidden) located in the municipality of Pinofranqueado (one of the reference mucipios of the Hurdes). To get there we must take a detour located shortly after leaving Pinofranquedo. After 5 km of winding roads we will arrive to this corner of the Hurdes to take a pleasant walk (it is a very comfortable and simple route) to see this wonder of nature, the chorrituelo of Ovejuela, which in times of rain surprises us by its flow and its beautiful fall of more than 50m.

Meander Melero

Few times you can be as surprised with a natural accident as with the meander Melero. The views from the viewpoint are incredible.

It is not the same to see it live, from the viewpoint, as it is to see photographs. I assure you, it is not the same. You will probably think that it is nothing more than a meander and, believe me, when you get to the viewpoint and contemplate, from the top, the landscape offered by this wonderful natural feature, you will change your mind.

Remember that you can go by car to the viewpoint, but my advice is to leave the car a little earlier and walk at least the last stretch. It is a very easy cement track that will allow you to fill your lungs with clean mountain air.

One of the best known natural landscapes of Extremadura, which is located in Castilla y León (curious, isn't it?). The farmhouses are small villages, many of them uninhabited nowadays. They total 46 although 4 of them historically do not belong to the region but to the Mancomunidad de Las Hurdes. Their urban organization is very primary, combining the existence of houses with slate huts, witnesses of a highly precarious way of life.

 

Etymologically, the word "alquería" derives from the Arabic word for small rural communities inhabited by a few families dedicated to the exploitation of the surrounding land. To visit one of them is to go back in time several centuries and get the reward of the leisurely time, peace and the feeling of belonging to nature. We invite you to visit those of Robledo, Avellanar and Cambroncino and to see the film "Buñuel and the Labyrinth of the Turtles".
