In the heart of the Cáceres region of La Vera, is Valverde de la Vera, an ancient manor that played an important role during the reconquest and subsequent repopulation of the territory. The castle dates from the thirteenth century and its origin is linked to a fortification of the Order of the Temple, which, in turn, built on an Islamic Rapid. It is very close to the Church of Nuestra Señora de Fuentes Claras , whose visit is also recommended as it integrates part of the fortification and combines religious and military elements.
Of the castle only a tower and part of its walls remain. The environment is currently converted into an open-air auditorium for the celebration of events and the garden that connects it with the parish is a quiet place with dense vegetation in which time seems to stand still.

A few meters from the Monastery of Yuste, where Charles I of Spain and V of Germany ended his days, there is this curious place.
Nobody expects to find a cemetery in the middle of the mountain, but it is an extraordinarily beautiful place that exudes peace. It is not a Nazi cemetery. It is not even a World War II cemetery. It is a military cemetery of German soldiers. Not all those buried in this place fought under Hitler, but they did so during the First World War.
In the place a plaque explains that under its gray granite crosses, all the same, rest 26 soldiers of World War I and 154 of World War II.

Charles I of Spain and V of Germany had a dream and had it built in a place rich in water with a large grove of endless and beautiful forests. The Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste was the place he chose to rest.
Almost five hundred years after the death of the Holy Roman Emperor, known as "El Césa", the only thing that reigns in this place is peace and calm.
The building is discreet in contrast to its international reputation. To visit the monastery, today occupied by the Hieronymites, is to approach the figure of Charles I without any doubt. It is essential to know the history of that time and the origin of the European Union. Works of art, sober architecture and extraordinary gardens with ponds make this place a must visit.
