Plasencia Cathedral

Two cathedrals in one, two stories mixed for the visitor's delight.

From Romanesque to Gothic in two steps

Plasencia is one of the few cities, along with Salamanca, that has two cathedrals. Both the Old Cathedral or "Santa María" and the New Cathedral are annexed and neither of them is finished. The New Cathedral has a chevet and transept but lacks the naves of the body and the astial.

Curiously, the Old Cathedral lacks a chancel and transept since they were demolished to build the New Cathedral. An imposing building, or rather two, that make up the most important architectural and artistic ensemble of Plasencia in which diversity of spaces, facades, figures, decoration... are mixed. A place where strolling and contemplating will take you back in time and will make you dream.
