It is impressive to see the wall in the distance, but Galisteo has more to show.
Its origin is uncertain: some attribute the first settlement to the Vetton people while others relate the nearby Roman mansion of Rusticiana to the beginning of the population in these parts. Perhaps as uncertain as the origin of the name that almost in all probability is lost in "Moorish times" and probably derives from Galilea or Madinat Ghaliayah.
Its extraordinary walled enclosure is of Almohad origin and is based on Arab construction schemes and types. As was the Alcazaba of which today only the Torre Picota is preserved.
The Church of the Assumption is from the 12th century and of Mudejar-Romanesque style with an apse of two bodies made of brick.
