One of the most beautiful Jewish quarters in Extremadura

Beautiful group of houses that make up one of the most beautiful Jewish quarters in Extremadura .

The Jewish community inhabited this town from the thirteenth century until their expulsion in the fifteenth century, leaving a network of narrow streets and unique houses very traditional that merges the Sephardic tradition with vernacular architecture. Large overhangs and balconies of chestnut beams.

Special visit deserves the houses on the banks of the Ambroz River next to the bridge of the Fuente Chiquita. A walk through its streets, sometimes steep, will take you back several centuries in history, immersing you fully in the end of the Middle Ages.

It has been declared a historic-artistic site and belongs to the Network of Jewish Quarters in Spain. It is especially recommended to visit during the cultural festival of Los Conversos in early July that mixes art, history and Sephardic oral traditions.
