The Ascent of a Bastion Through the Ages

In the VIII century the Islamic invaders established a settlement that three hundred years later would become a great fortress. This was built during the first Taifas around the 11th century.

This place was witness and victim of the wars between the kingdoms of Badajoz and Seville, suffering part of its destruction and later raised by the Almohads from whom it was taken by the Christians who rebuilt it giving it an aspect more similar to the current one. Even so, it is a magnificent building in which the Arab construction techniques can be contemplated.

A legend attributes to Santiago Apostle the aid in battle to the Christian troops. This one jumped with his white horse on the walls in an epic act, scaring the infidels and inclining the luck of the contest in favor of the Christian side .
