Roman city of CÁPARRA
Who has not heard of the unique arch of Cáparra. But behind this Roman monument hides much more.

Cápara is still a mystery. There is talk of a very important Roman city through which all the trade of the Via de la Plata passed.
Cáparra is well worth a visit. It is a small archaeological site of an ancient Roman city of great importance in the life of the time. And where stands out, above all, its quadruple arc, unique in its kind in the Iberian Peninsula and has become one of the symbols of Extremadura.
You can visit the site, after passing through the interpretation center (in this case of great interest if you like to know everything about the great infrastructures created by the Romans). It is an enclosed area with parking area that you can visit with the family on the days and times established (see below for visiting hours).
Curiosities.
This almost disappeared and buried city was a very important communications junction that linked Emérita Augusta (Merida) with Artúrica Augusta (Astorga).
The city was quite large (only a small part has been discovered). It is estimated that it could occupy 16 hectares of land and its perimeter exceeded 1.5 km in distance (not counting the houses that have been located in the outskirts of the city).
The arch is unique, supported on four pillars ending in four semicircular arches. There is nothing like it in the entire Iberian Peninsula.
Visiting hours to Cáparra
Admission is free and you can visit both the interpretation center and the archaeological remains.
From October 1 to May 31 the opening hours are as follows:
Tuesday to Saturday:
Morning from 10:00 h. - 14:00 h.
Afternoon from 16:00 h. - 19:00 h.
