Autumn in the Jerte Valley

The Jerte Valley is a magnificent place to enjoy the autumn. The fall of the leaves offers us beautiful landscapes and a large number of activities organized by the community and municipalities.

Autumn in the Jerte Valley is full of beautiful landscapes and many activities. Here we tell you everything in brief.

But what is the Otoñada?
It is an extensive program of activities that takes place in the Jerte Valley taking advantage of the visit of tourists and nature lovers who come during this time to enjoy the wonderful landscapes fruit of the chromatic variety that bring the ocher, red, green and brown by the fall of the leaf (in this way also becomes an incentive for each year to come in greater numbers).

Truly, the valley is really beautiful during this time and it is a spectacle to hike, ride the mountain roads or just take a stroll through nature. Even the humidity or the fog give a special touch to the environment. And what can we say if in addition, the rains accompany and the waterfalls overflow with water. In other words, a natural spectacle accompanied by a multitude of activities every week.

When is the Otoñada? Activities

As is logical, the Otoñada will always coincide with autumn. But when we talk about the activities that take place on the occasion of this event we have to talk about very specific dates. From early November to mid-December, during all weekends, activities related to the culture and traditions of the Jerte Valley take place.

Every year there is a program (which we will bring you here when this year's program is published) with all the events, acts and activities that are celebrated and that are shared with the neighbors of the Valley and with the visitors that arrive every weekend. As an example, every year we have events such as "la fiesta de la caída de la hoja" (with tasting and tasting of the slaughter of the pig), the "mercado imperial" (related to the visit of Charles V.) (related to the visit of Charles V), the " Toña piornalega" (as they say "otoñada" in Piornal) or the "gastronomic pastoral days", among many other events.

If you were thinking of coming to the Jerte Valley. Think about it, maybe autumn can be a great time to organize a getaway.

Some suggestions

In autumn, a few quick tips. Although the valley as a whole is already a beautiful landscape, perhaps some activities are more complete than others. For example, a good idea may be to walk the Chestnut Route (circular route, just 4.5km, which starts from Casas del Castañar). You will cross a wooded area with chestnut trees up to 700 years old (remember that in autumn, the chestnut tree is one of the architects of that characteristic color that gives us its leaf and contributes to create that idyllic atmosphere). Simply beautiful.

Another good idea is to go up certain roads from the bottom of the valley(scenic roads) and stop from time to time to take pictures (some of them will be real postcards). For example, the road that goes up to Piornal passing through Valdastillas. The road that goes up to El Torno and passes by the viewpoint of La Memoria. Or even better, the pass of Honduras, which takes us from the Jerte Valley to Hervás (in the Ambroz Valley) and that in its highest area offers us wonderful landscapes (yes, it is a narrow road that at a certain height can be quite vertiginous, you are warned).

And finally, if it has rained, it would be a crime not to visit the waterfalls. When the water is abundant, the spectacle is simply breathtaking. If we add to this the autumn scenery, the result is grandiose. Keep in mind that the waterfalls are usually in wooded areas where the trees provide us with intoxicating environments at this time of the year. The route of the Nogaledas gorge (the most important route of waterfalls in the Jerte Valley), the Caozo waterfall (simply impressive) or the Marta gorge, with a picnic area where you can spend a nice day.
