History merges with eternity

Megalithism has multiple manifestations in this region . Specifically, in Valencia del Ventoso, there is this extraordinary menhir that after some centuries, perhaps millennia, was put back on its feet less than thirty years ago.

It dates from sometime between the sixth and fourth millennium B.C. and was erected for what exact purpose, although everything points to fertility issues, as its phallic shape suggests. It is decorated with cups, small circular holes B and reaches 2.74 m in height with a width of 95 cm.

In Valencia del Ventoso there is another menhir more, used as watering place for animals in the source of Abajo, next to the Castle of Santiago in the population.
