Above Piornal, in the area of Peña Negra, there is a large area of semillanura (over 1250 meters above sea level) where the sunsets are wonderful.

It is not an area especially visited by tourists, but it is a fantastic landscape to take a walk and watch the sunset. The Piornalegos (natives of Piornal) call it "la Padrona". It is an area full of huge granite rocks (some even dangerous because of their height) with its own mountain vegetation and offers many possibilities for hiking, walking, drinking water from crystal clear mountain springs or spending a day in nature.
We must climb up to the town of Piornal and pass the village. Just past Piornal we take the junction that indicates "Garganta la Hoya", continue for about 3km and we will find ourselves in this kind of high mountain plain. When you reach the sign "Puerto de Piornal", you will see a track that leads to Peña Negra. Take this track and you can leave the car wherever you want (you are at the top of the mountain, if you had continued with the car you would start descending towards La Vera). You have a lot of ground to walk and enjoy one of the coolest places in the Jerte Valley, with incredible views of the two regions (La Vera and Valle del Jerte).
