An eagle's nest in the middle of the pastureland

Pico San Gregorio reaches 844 meters above sea level. The views from its summit are impressive. And the way up is no less impressive. The path is not signposted but it is perfectly drawn on the terrain. Leaving from Santa Cruz de la Sierra through the back of the Convent of the Augustinians, just follow the path and, if in doubt, look ahead to clear the way.
The ascent takes us past a pre-Roman fort, the remains of an aqueduct carved into the rock, several fountains and the remains of a medieval settlement. The summit is crowned by what appears to be a cromlech with a staircase carved in stone, in any case remains of a primitive sanctuary.
How to get there: It is accessed from the village through the Santa Rita neighborhood, along a road that climbs directly to the Sierra.
