Trevejo, the essence of Sierra de Gata

Trevejo is like a fairy tale with princesses and dragons. Or perhaps the imprint of the Portuguese Aldeias Históricas has been felt here?
This tiny medieval village is perched on one of the peaks of the foothills of the Sierra de Gata at 700 masl.

It has barely 24 inhabitants and is a necessary stop if you have not been to the Sierra de Gata before. In fact, it is a perfect introduction to what you will see. Its imposing castle, defies everything and everyone since Napoleonic troops tried to blow it up with cannon fire.

Yet there it is, waiting for you. At its feet, a series of tombs carved into the stone respond to the legend that some warrior monks were buried there. Others think of pre-Roman or Visigothic peoples. You will have to go there to find out.
